Recycling of Waste Paper

The annual global paper & paperboard production was approximately 382 million tonnes in 2006 and 402 million tonnes in 2010. It is expected to reach 490 million tonnes in 2020. As per ITC & Indian Agro & Recycled Paper Mills Association (IARPMA) the projected demand for fresh paper will be reached by 21 million tonnes with in next few years. In India per capita paper consumption has increased up to 9.18 kg in 2009-10 as compared to 8.3 kg during 2008-09. Due to the economy growth in India per capita paper consumption will be expected to reach near to 20 kg by 2020.

As per above data and research by ITS & IARPMA per year paper consumption or requirement is increasing by 8% to 9%. For that paper industry need millions of trees, required millions letters of water, hug requirement of energy and creating tons of Carbon. All these factors impact directly on environment & global warming.

In India we produce approximately 14.6 million tonnes of waste paper every year out of that we recycle only 26% where as Germany recycle 80%, Sweden recycle 69%, Japan recycle 60 % and USA recycle 49% according to the IARPMA estimates.

GPTC is the initiative launched ICG for creating awareness regarding waste paper recycling and reducing above impact of environment. GPTC refers to the practice of collecting a variety of waste paper which includes waste office paper, Craft & Xerox Paper, magazines & books, junk mail, new paper, construction paper, Cotton Rags etc. and convert/ recycle the same in to reusable stationery or other products. We offer free stationery products like Files, Writing pads, Ball Pens, Slip pad/ Boxes etc. against the waste paper which we collect from client sites. The quantity of free products depend upon the volume of waste paper which client given to GPTC. To appreciate the contribution of clients for environment GPTC dedicates trees to its clients. All collection, recycling and tree plantation cost will be belongs to GPTC, we will not charge any direct or indirect cost from clients for the same.

Through “Waste Paper Recycling” what you contribute:

Waste Paper Recycling have a huge impact on environment and society. After joining the group of green initiators for saving trees – “GPTC”, your contribution for society and environment is massive in the form of reducing pollution, saving trees, energy & water consumption and creating livelihoods for people. Just recycling 1 short ton (0.91 t) paper you will save following:
  1. It would saves 17 full grow TREEs and these trees reduce tonnes of Co2 years to years.
  2. Seven thousand gallons (26 m3) of fresh WATER, which is sufficient drinking water more then 10 years for one human.
  3. Save 4,100 kilowatt-hours (15 GJ) of ELECTRICITY, the same is enough energy to power the average Indian village for six months.
  4. Through paper recycling we will save huge quantity of fuel, which is sufficient for a normal village family for next three years.
  5. Paper industry is creating approximately 3.67 tones of Co2 for producing 1 ton of fresh paper, through waste paper recycling it will reduce the air pollution by Save 74%.
  6. Paper recycling is not only impacting on environment but also generation livelihood for humans, just through recycling of 1 short ton (0.91 t) paper it will generate jobs for 20 people.
Corporates with take this project in there CSR activities for creating impact on environment and society.
